CHACHU

The Gathering was our Paw-paus

The center was Our Chachu

Remember from our Paw-paus?

The first gathering of our people the Monheags (Mohiigan) soon after arriving at the Quinatucquet (Connecticut) river as told to me by our elders was on a circular patch of land now plowed over into a housing development.

The 2nd is on Turtle Hill overlooking the Pequot river.

According to the elders both sites looked almost identical only miles apart.

Around this patch of land were young trees so the people used them to make their homes by bending the trees and attaching the tops together and covering them with fur, skins, bark and such.

In the east outside of the chachu was the Longhouse, outside of the chachu west was space for the altar and Sacred Fire and each family had their own Round-House (Wigwam).

The women and children danced around the center crushing the grass then gathering it for future fires.

There were no fence or rope or anything else around the area because everyone was taught from birth to enter only from the east.

If one thinks about it this patch of land that just happened to be round was our church (chacha), a place to pray, enjoy friends, visitors and Kiehtan.

Entering from the east was a simple thing to remember because the sun rises from the east, the fire was in the west because the sun sets in the west.

When invited, Kiehtan came from the east and settled in the west.

At all of these gatherings humans, animals and birds as our brothers and sisters, were also welcome into the chachu as long as there was no restriction of any king and they could come and go as they pleased.

CIRCLE

What is a circle?

Almost anything round

What is a Native Sacred Circle?

A native circle is not anything special as such it is a meeting place for enjoyment of friends and family.

A Sacred Circle is about the same only natives invite their supreme being, Grandfather, Creator to join in on our happy time with friends and family.

The difference between the two in our case, Eastern Natives, is in the preparation of the circle and the land around the circle, a ceremony not un-like our Paw-paus.

ARENA

What is an Arena?

An arena is any place where anybody can entertain the public with anything that one wishes to entertain the public with?

A Circuses uses an arena?

List of circuses.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_circuses_and_circus_owners

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus has an arena.

Casinos Indians use an arena.

Most Indian Tribes west of the Mississippi river and north of New England use an arena.

Carnivals use an arena.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Traveling_carnival

And last but by no means least.

Most of the modern (whatever that is) Indian circles use an arena?

Call it what you may but to be in-line with respecting the ancestors east of the Mississippi river south of Canada, you must not call it

“Sacred!”

See Paw-paus

NATIVE DRUM

The “Native Drum” is the heart beat of the people.

Yes, the drum “Sacred Drum,” is important to our people.

The drum is not Kiehtan our Creator so we must not and do not pray or praise the drum.

Many tribes in the area place the drum, a group of native drummers, into the middle of their circle.

This is not wrong, in fact it is a teaching from their/our ancestor, only it must always be pointed out that this is

because the “Sacred Fire,” is in the West and one must only enter the circle from the East if it is a “Sacred Circle!”!

PAW-PAUS

What is a Paw-paus?

The first gathering of our people the Monheags (Mohiigan) soon after arriving at the Quinatucquet (Connecticut) river as told to me by our elders was on a circular patch of land now plowed over into a housing development. The 2nd is on Turtle Hill overlooking the Pequot river.

WANNABES

Wannabe Leaders

The Dutch and French trappers and the Spanish conquistadors devastated the tribes up and down the east coast with their disease, treatment of the women and their weapons.

And then along came the English and then the government!

So hundreds of these tribes were forced to keep their culture with just a skeleton group of families.

In the 1940’s 50’s and early 60’s my Grandfather, the family and elders from his meetings would visit these groups of people in their Native American Villages, yes, real Indians before this government disowned them!

Because of a lack of leadership they were desperate to learn the keeping of their culture and ceremonies and would meet us with open arms.

Remember that in my Grandfathers meetings were many elders from all over the New York, New England area.

In the late 1970’s and 1980’s ‘Renegade Indians’ from west of the Mississippi river, shunned by their tribes started showing up in the east trying to teach our people their ways!

If they could not make it in their tribes what would make our people think that they could make it in ours?

Simple, lack of strong leadership!

Also many Canadian tribes started to infiltrate the area.

To top this off along came the Euro-Americans with their Celtic Occult beliefs in the late 1980’s and 1990’s!

Mind you that none of this outside corruption means that they no longer have a tribe of good people, just because their leadership, ceremonies and culture is now polluted.

WHAT IS A SHAMAN?

Shaman

a person regarded as having access to, and influence in, the world of good and evil spirits, especially among some people of northern Asia and North America.

Typically such people enter a trance state during a ritual, and practice divination and healing.

In other words, one only has to smoke the funny weed to become a Native American Shaman?

WHAT IS A POWWOW?

Evil Powwow

https://sachemspeaks.wordpress.com/2014/08/21/evil-powwow/

Why can’t one ever be adopted at a powwow?

https://sachemspeaks.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=3445&action=edit

Always remember that I teach from the years of learning from my elders teaching of our ancestors, the Mohiigan’s of New England.

As you have learned from our site Paw-paus, if not please read it first?

A Powwow is an Evil Spirit from our past that caused pain, misery and destruction so bad that Kiehtan our Creator stepped in to end his reign of terror.

After ‘First contact from the Euro-Americans,’ we were forced to hide our Paw-paus from the pushy settlers and protect our belief so we fluffed over the many sacred parts of the ceremony added a few attractions and changed to name to be named after this ‘Evil Spirit,’ and this continues ever today with few if any Indians knowing the difference?
