Who Died Alone Gets Hero Send-Off

This should never happen to our veterans

and most assuredly, not our WW-2 Veterans?

Hundreds of current and former NYPD officers paid tribute Thursday to a retired detective and World War II veteran

who died alone,

a day after the department asked that

the community unite to give him a hero’s farewell.

William Brown died last month at the age of 95.

He had no friends or family by his side,

and his body was discovered by police officers from the 113th Precinct

who befriended him over the winter, the NYPD said.

The officers wanted to make sure Retired Detective William Brown got a proper farewell.
