NATO Launches Largest Military Drill Yet

The NATO alliance is clearly stronger than ever and its recent show of force is sending an even stronger message. Russia on the other hand said there’s no clear justification for the alliance to amass this much military might.

Today, there are as much as 31,000 soldiers coming from 24 countries that have gathered in Poland to stage one of the biggest military exercises Europe has ever witnessed. Exercise Anakonda 2016 involves a series of premiere multinational training events.

According to the U.S. Army Europe, the goal here is for the Polish forces to be able to integrate well with the rest of the NATO force. At the same time, Anakonda is also meant to support deterrence measures against anyone who would try to mess with a NATO ally. It is an assurance that Russia or anyone else will be met with sustained allied combat power.

Anakonda will see troops from the United States, Albania, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Germany, Hungary, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Turkey and the United Kingdom participate in several joint exercises.

For the U.S. Army, this includes soldiers from the Delta Battery, 5th Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery Regiment who made their way to Poland on May 30 for the exercise. They are made up of 30 soldiers that man 11 vehicles who made a 1,116-kilometer trip to Poland. Their convoy is just one of the 11 convoys that carried soldiers from the 10th Army Air and Missile Defense to join Anakonda All in all, Exercise Anakonda is supported by as much as 3,000 vehicles, 105 aircraft and 12 warships as they cover eight challenging training areas.

As for Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday, “Russia will never invade any NATO member. We have no such plans.” Hence, he believes NATO’s buildup of military might is simply unjustified. However, Mo4Ch News reported that Moscow is anything but pleased about NATO accepting new members and its movement of military assets closer to Russia.
