 My name is Marwa, and I am a Muslim.

I heard you wanted us the start wearing ID badges, so I decided to choose one for myself.

I am not easily identifiable as a ‪

‎Muslim

just by looking at me, so my new badge will let me display proudly who I am.

I chose the peace sign because it represents my ‪

Islam.

The one that taught me to oppose ‪injustice and yearn for ‪unity.

The one that taught me that killing one innocent life is equivalent to killing humanity.

I heard you want to track us as well.

You can come with me on my Cancer Awareness walks at the local middle school, or you can follow me to work where it’s my job to create happiness.

You can also see how my local mosque makes PB&J sandwiches for the homeless and hosts interfaith dinners where everyone is welcome.

Maybe then you’ll see that me being Muslim doesn’t make me any less American than you are.

Maybe if you walk in my footsteps, you can see that I am not any less human than you are.

  3. I love my Muslim friends and fellow bloggers. They help me see the world in a different way. While in college I was friends with several who lived in my dorm. I think the phobia they face is unfair and unkind. Yes there are a few bad apples in the bunch like there are people of all faiths and walks of life. I appreciate their culture and commitment to the service of mankind.

  14. Wonderful post. This is how you deal with ignorance – with the truth. It would be wonderful if it made an impact on the intended target; too often that is not the case. But it made an impact on me – brightened my day, and gave me a reason to smile and someone to smile about; Thanks.

  18. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. I have several friends who are muslim, writers and poets. They are fine people, as yet they have not commented on what is being done by radicals in the name of Islam. I think that would be a good thing.

  22. Hi Marwa, thanks for blogging this great piece, I think it important that a piece like this was written, so well done. I hope Donald Trump is well beaten in the next elections, he is everything the world does not need at the moment, narrow, self absorbed, racist and not open to other religious beliefs. His suggestions, do not seem that different from the Nazi treatment of the Jewish people during the second world war. It seems to me that you are a wonderful, spiritual person, who cares deeply for others, rather than the stereotype that Trump portrays. Bestn wishes and blessings Charles.
