This is a necessary first

I do not like talking about my service time, this is a necessary first.

While in the navy after an un-grade to the ship, a trip to Guantanamo (GITMO) was in order, one day just before first light I walked to our fantail as usual before breakfast to check on my watchmen, found him inside of a trash can with the phone sound asleep, he went to Captains mass and then to Norfolk immediately, you see, while looking for him, following the phone line, I looked over the portside just in time to see a half-dozen Castro junkets coming alongside looking for trouble, so what would have happened if I had gone directly to chow that morning?

No, we were not at war with Cube, only someone forgot to tell many of Castro’s warriors!

Conscientious Objector

somebody whose conscience forbids military service: somebody who, for moral or religious reasons, believes it is wrong to wage war and therefore refuses to join or serve in any branch of the armed services.

The key words are refuses to join!

Not only did he join remember (No Draft) he was standing watch in a war zone when he walked away, if in fact he did just walk away.

Definition of Deserting one post in war If the member is on guard or watch duty and then leaves their post without authorization, with the intent to abandon the post:
